Could someone illuminate how sound posts are done? How Many? What material? Have you experimented trying to modify the sound of your guitars after building and string up (eg. you want more bass or treble?) |

Tomas, I used 6 posts on mine. They mounted in small divots between the plywood ring and the back braces. I strategically placed the back braces in the locations to have that happen. |

Thanks Don. I think I'll make my next guitar with an access panel so I can really experiment. |

I tend to just use 4 posts, although the back of the plywood ring is also supported on a block glued to the tailpiece. I can't imagine that the posts have much effect on the tone. "Soundpost" is really a misnomer and confuses people by suggesting that they function like the soundpost in a violin family. I think "support post" is a better description. Have you seen Gary Dusina's articles on dobro building at www.reso-nation.org, Tomas? |

Wow! Louisiana What a great article! That sure answered a lot of questions. I really appreciate the help and this forum as well as those of you who directed me to ResoNation. I am off to the shop to play with some ideas this gave me. I'll be back! |
